Question 1

Are you a dog shelter?

Accepted Answer

No. LocalPetFinder is not a shelter. We are a pet discovery and matching platform that helps you find adoptable dogs from Sydney and NSW rescues in one place.

Question 2

Where do your adoptable dogs come from?

Accepted Answer

Our listings are sourced from publicly available rescue and adoption organisations across Sydney and New South Wales. Each dog profile links to the official rescue page.

Question 3

How do I adopt a dog through LocalPetFinder?

Accepted Answer

When you find a dog you love, click "Learn More" to visit the rescue's official page. All applications, approvals and adoption decisions are handled directly by the rescue.

Question 4

How often are listings updated?

Accepted Answer

Listings are refreshed regularly to reflect currently available dogs. Adoptions can happen quickly, so always confirm availability on the rescue's official page.

Question 5

Does LocalPetFinder charge adoption fees?

Accepted Answer

No. LocalPetFinder is completely free to use. Adoption fees are set by the rescue organisation.

Question 6

What is Magic Match?

Accepted Answer

Magic Match is a short quiz that recommends dogs based on your home, lifestyle, experience level and preferences.

Question 7

Can I filter by small dogs, senior dogs, or puppies?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use filters to narrow by size, age, energy level and compatibility (kids, cats, apartment living).

Question 8

Is this only for Sydney?

Accepted Answer

LocalPetFinder currently focuses on adoptable pets in Sydney and surrounding areas in New South Wales.

Question 9

Is LocalPetFinder the same as PetRescue?

Accepted Answer

No. PetRescue.com.au is one of Australia's largest national pet adoption sites, listing animals from rescues right across the country. LocalPetFinder is a Sydney and NSW focused aggregator: every dog here comes from a Sydney-area or New South Wales rescue, refreshed regularly, alongside local guides on council registration, desexing, and NSW adoption costs. The two are different platforms. We cover only Sydney and NSW so the listings and the advice stay local, not national.

Question 10

What is the local alternative to Adopt A Pet or PetRescue in Sydney?

Accepted Answer

LocalPetFinder is the Sydney pet finder for adoptable rescue dogs. Adopt A Pet (adoptapet.com) is a US-based platform with limited Australian coverage, and PetRescue lists nationally. LocalPetFinder pulls every listing from a Sydney-area or NSW rescue and adds the local detail those national sites skip: council registration, desexing, and what adoption actually costs in New South Wales. If you searched for 'adopt a pet sydney', 'pet finder near me', or a PetRescue-style local directory, you are already in the right place.
