Cat adoption in Napier: common questions

How many cats are available for adoption in Napier?

There are 4 adoptable rescue cats listed in Napier right now. Rescue numbers move quickly as animals are adopted, so the count changes between visits.

Which rescues do these Napier cats come from?

Every cat on this page comes from SPCA New Zealand. Each listing links straight to that rescue's own page, where the application is handled.

Is LocalPetFinder a shelter?

No. LocalPetFinder is a discovery platform, not a rescue. We bring listings together in one place so you do not have to check each rescue's website separately. Applications, approvals and adoption decisions are handled entirely by the rescue.

Does it cost anything to use?

No. LocalPetFinder is free. Adoption fees are set by the rescue and are paid to them directly, not to us.

Can I adopt a Napier cat if I live elsewhere in New Zealand?

That is up to the rescue. Some rehome only within their local area, others will consider adopters further afield. The rescue's own listing page states their policy — check it before applying.

Is LocalPetFinder part of the SPCA?

No. LocalPetFinder is an independent site that lists the cats up for adoption at SPCA New Zealand's centres, so you can see them by city in one place. To adopt, you apply to the SPCA itself: open a cat's profile and use the Register to adopt button on the SPCA's own page. SPCA adoptions are by appointment, and the SPCA makes every adoption decision.

How much does it cost to adopt a cat from the SPCA?

SPCA New Zealand charges the same fees at every centre: $299 for a kitten under five months, $149 for a cat aged five months to nine years, and $75 for a senior cat aged ten or older. Cats are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated before adoption, and the fee includes a $15 lifetime registration on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register. A $2.50 service charge is added, long-stay animals (adoptable for more than 42 days) are 30% off, and adopting more than one animal is 15% off.
