About dog adoption in Gympie
Most rescue dogs in Gympie come from one place. RSPCA Queensland runs its Gympie Animal Care Centre at Lot 6 Laurenceson Road, and the Gympie Regional Council pound is on the same site. The RSPCA says more than 500 animals find new homes through the Gympie centre each year. Dogs listed in Gympie show first on this page, followed by dogs from the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge at Tanawha.
RSPCA Gympie is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, and closed on Monday and Tuesday. You can call in to meet the animals or apply online for a dog you have seen listed. Each dog is health checked, desexed, microchipped and vaccinated before adoption, and the fee is shown on its listing.
Under Queensland's Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008, a dog must be microchipped and registered with the council from 12 weeks of age. Gympie Regional Council registrations renew each year by 31 October, the dog must wear its council tag, and keeping more than two dogs needs a licence. Paralysis ticks are a risk in this part of Queensland, so ask your vet about prevention.
