About dog adoption in Frankston

Frankston is well placed for adoption. RSPCA Victoria's Peninsula shelter is a short drive away at Pearcedale, RSPCA also has an adoption partner centre at the Petbarn on Cranbourne Road, and The Lost Dogs' Home runs a second shelter at Cranbourne West. The Australian Animal Protection Society in Keysborough is a straightforward run up the freeway as well.

Life with a dog here revolves around the bay. Frankston City Council keeps a free roam area on the beach at Keast Park in Seaford, plus fully fenced free roam areas at Ballam Park, McClelland Reserve, Melaleuca Reserve in Langwarrin, Telopea Reserve in Frankston North and Sandfield Reserve in Carrum Downs. The fenced parks are a good place to practise recall with a newly adopted dog before you trust it anywhere open.

Keep the summer beach rules in mind. From 1 December to 31 March, dogs are not allowed on Frankston beaches between 9:30 am and 7:30 pm, apart from the Keast Park off-lead area, and outside those hours they must be on a lead. Greyhounds must stay on lead even in council off-leash areas. Adult rescue dogs in Victoria cost about $500 to $850 (up to $1,000 at RSPCA Victoria), with desexing and microchipping included.
