Alvin came to GAWS as a stray, so his history is a mystery. Since arriving, we've learned that Alvin is a shy, sensitive boy who takes time to warm up to new people. He can be particularly uncomfortable with handling, especially when having a lead attached or removed. Once he feels safe and trusts his people, Alvin's sweet, playful personality shines through. However, due to some fear-based reactions he has shown in the shelter, we recommend a home without children. Alvin would also be best suited as the only dog in the home, as his breed is known for its independent nature and strong devotion to its family. Ideally, his new owner will have experience with Shar-Peis and understand the skin conditions that are common in the breed. As Alvin came to us as a stray, we don't know if he is toilet trained, so his new family should be prepared to continue his training and help him adjust to indoor and outdoor living.
