Meet Dougie! Dougie is a handsome big-hearted boy looking for a patient and understanding home where he can learn that the world isn't such a scary place. Having had limited life experience before coming into care, Dougie is still building his confidence and will thrive with adopters who are committed to taking things slowly and allowing him to progress at his own pace. While timid when first meeting new people and environments, Dougie is very food motivated and eager to learn. As his confidence grows, we expect his playful and potentially boisterous side to emerge, so he will need a home experienced with larger dogs and capable of managing a strong, energetic companion while continuing his training. Dougie is searching for a calm, structured home where he can be the only dog. He will need support with all the basics, including toilet training, loose-lead walking, obedience, settling calmly indoors, and learning to spend time alone gradually. A predictable routine, plenty of enrichment, and positive reinforcement will help him succeed. Dougie would be best suited to a home with adults and older teens, a secure yard, and adopters dedicated to ongoing training and rehabilitation. He can be opportunistic around food, so food management will be important while he learns good manners. For the right family, Dougie has all the potential to become a loyal, loving companion. If you have the patience to let him grow at his own pace, you'll be rewarded with the privilege of watching this special boy flourish.
