About Puma Thurman
Puma Thurman may have a movie-star name, but right now she'd much rather skip the spotlight and enjoy some peace and quiet behind the scenes.
This beautiful little tortoiseshell arrived as a stray with no identification, and the busy shelter has been a very overwhelming place for her. At first, she was so frightened that she would freeze, tremble and try to make herself as small as possible.
But even the shyest stars deserve their moment to shine, and Puma has recently started showing some lovely little signs of progress. She has gone from only accepting treats left on the floor to eating creamy treats straight from the tube!
She's also becoming curious enough to sniff an offered hand and, even after retreating to her safe spot, has chosen to come forward again for another look. She isn't quite ready to ask for pats yet, but those small decisions to approach people are wonderful steps in the right direction.
Puma is still learning to trust, and changes to her surroundings can make her feel unsure all over again. Even moving into a different shelter pod has been a big adjustment for her. Her new family will need to give her a quiet room of her own, a predictable routine and plenty of time to settle. That might mean days or even weeks of simply sitting nearby, offering treats and letting her decide when she's ready for company. There's no need to rush her.
At only one year old, Puma still has so much life ahead of her. We don't know exactly what her personality will look like once she's completely comfortable, but we're already seeing a curious little girl beginning to find her courage. She doesn't need someone to bring her into the spotlight. She needs someone who will make her feel safe enough to step into it herself.
