About Trigger

Meet Trigger! Trigger is a bright, energetic young girl with a big personality and an even bigger enthusiasm for life. She is looking for an experienced , committed home that can provide the structure, guidance and enrichment she needs to thrive. Trigger can become easily over-aroused and struggles with impulse control and self-regulation. When excited, she may fixate on dangling items such as treat pouches or lanyards, and can escalate to jumping up, mouthing, grabbing and tugging. She has a very busy mind and finds it difficult to switch off without support, so her new family will need to actively help her learn how to settle and relax. She will do best in a calm, predictable home environment where clear boundaries and consistency are established from day one. Trigger will need time to decompress after adoption and should be gradually introduced to time alone. Trigger loves having a job to do and will benefit from ongoing positive reinforcement training, enrichment activities and plenty of mental stimulation. Puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, slow feeders, training games and other food-based enrichment will be excellent outlets for her energy and intelligence. As an active chewer, Trigger will need a dog-proofed home and appropriate chew toys readily available. She particularly enjoys durable chew toys and may destroy soft toys unless they are used under supervision. Valuable items should be kept out of reach, as she is likely to investigate and chew anything accessible. Due to her arousal levels and exuberant behaviour, Trigger is not suited to a home with young children. She is best suited to a household with adults or older teenagers who are confident managing her behaviour and will not unintentionally reinforce undesirable habits. Trigger enjoys the company of other dogs but can be quite over-the-top in her interactions and may be reactive at times. Any resident dogs must meet her prior to adoption and should be calm, social and tolerant of her enthusiastic play style. With patient, knowledgeable owners who are willing to invest time in training, enrichment and teaching her how to relax, Trigger has the potential to become a fantastic and rewarding companion.
