Shakiro is a four-year-old Sharpei mix with a goofy personality, a huge heart and an impressive talent for making himself comfortable wherever his humans are. This affectionate boy absolutely loves his people and is happiest snuggled up beside you on the sofa or curled up next to you in bed. If you're looking for a loving companion who wants to be part of family life, Shakiro could be your boy. Shakiro is a gentle, easy-going fellow who rarely barks and takes new experiences in his stride. He's happy visiting new homes and meeting new people, and he's friendly with other dogs. He enjoys trips to the dog park and would likely enjoy having a canine companion, with the usual careful introductions. He's also very relaxed around cats and simply ignores them, so he could suit a home with feline friends too. He enjoys his walks and, although his lead manners are still a work in progress, he generally keeps the lead nice and slack, making walks with him a pleasure. At home, he's remarkably well behaved. He doesn't dig or cause destruction and is quite happy to spend time outside while you're out. Don't expect Shakiro to be your traditional game of fetch champion! He'd much rather carry a toy around or bring it to you as a present. He has a particularly sweet habit of delivering his toys to his humans, as though he's bringing you a carefully selected gift. He's also a big fan of television and will sit and watch attentively without getting overly excited by what's happening on screen. Shakiro is very food motivated and loves learning when treats are involved. He knows "sit" and is progressing quickly with "wait" using positive, treat-based training. He's toilet trained in his foster home and does well with regular opportunities to go outside every few hours, including being reminded to have a final wee before bedtime. His happiest place is with his humans, and this is also where he needs a little help. Shakiro can become anxious when separated from the people he has bonded with, so he's looking for a patient family who can give him plenty of companionship while gradually helping him become more comfortable spending time alone. He's also not a fan of being confined to a crate. He may resist getting into one and can whine while he's inside, so a crate-free home would be preferable. And then there's the tail. Shakiro is an enthusiastic tail wagger, sometimes so enthusiastic that he'll lie down and wag it against the floor with a satisfying thump, thump, thump. It's difficult not to smile when you're on the receiving end of that much happiness. Shakiro is desexed, microchipped, health checked and ready to find his forever family. He's a wonderfully affectionate, gentle and slightly goofy companion who would love nothing more than to have someone to follow around, a sofa to snuggle on and a family to call his own.
