Berkshire Park, NSW Chimera is a bit of a legend. This stunning German Shepherd x Husky boy is everything you’d expect from the mix, smart, expressive, goofy, playful, and absolutely full of personality. Chimera is a large dog with an equally large presence, but beneath the dramatic good looks is a genuinely sweet boy who loves being involved in whatever his people are doing. One of Chimera’s best qualities is his ability to read a room. He’s playful and silly when the time is right, but he also settles well and knows when to switch off. He's such an easy dog to be around; he wants to hang out but can also hang back, and he knows how to match the mood, whether that be partying or time to chill. However, there is an important side to Chimera that his new family will need to understand. In a new environment, away from the people he knows and trusts, Chimera is a very different boy. While he has grown into a confident, happy and social dog with us, he can initially be quite shy, hesitant and unsure when faced with unfamiliar people and surroundings. His new family will need to be patient, understanding and willing to take things at his pace, giving him the time and space he needs to settle in and build trust. We know that once Chimera feels safe and understands that he is home, his wonderful personality will shine through. Give him the time he needs and you will soon see the confident, happy, goofy boy we have gotten to know and love. He has so much to offer, but he needs people who understand that the transition may take a little time. Chimera is very friendly with people he knows and approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity once he feels comfortable. He walks nicely on leash and is generally very manageable out and about. He can become a little excited when he sees other dogs, but he responds well to redirection and continues to improve with consistency and structure. Chimera does enjoy the company of other dogs, and he has previously lived successfully with another German Shepherd x Husky. However, he can be a lot of dog when interacting with other dogs and his play style can be quite rough and full-on. He is a big, strong boy who can become very enthusiastic during play, and his idea of fun can involve plenty of body slamming, wrestling and rough-and-tumble. Because of this, he needs a confident, robust dog who genuinely enjoys this type of interaction and won't be overwhelmed by him. He is not suited to smaller or more delicate dogs, and any relationship with another dog would need to be carefully managed and introduced. His new family will need to continue working on his social skills, helping him learn when to dial things back and giving him appropriate outlets for his energy and enthusiasm. He may ultimately do very well with the right large, confident dog, but living with another dog is not essential for Chimera and he could be very happy as the only dog in the home. Chimera is also a playful, goofy boy who loves a bit of fun and interaction with his people. Whether it’s zoomies in the yard, tossing toys around, or dramatically flopping at your feet for attention, he’s always good for a laugh. Ideal Home * A house with a secure yard and space for a large dog to comfortably move around. * Owners experienced or confident with large breeds who understand the importance of patience, consistency and giving a dog time to settle. * A family who is prepared to take things slowly initially and allow Chimera to build confidence at his own pace. * Ideally, a home where he can be the only dog, or with a confident, large dog who genuinely enjoys rough-and-tumble play. * No cats. * Best suited to children aged 8+ due to his size and occasional enthusiasm. * A home happy to continue refining his dog manners and social skills. Energy Level Chimera is active and playful without being constantly on the go. He enjoys daily walks, enrichment, playtime and social interaction, but he also has a good off-switch at home and settles nicely once his needs are met. Suitability to Children Chimera could suit a home with dog-savvy children aged 8 years and older who are comfortable around large dogs. While he is very friendly with people he knows, his size and occasional excitement may accidentally overwhelm younger children. His new family should also understand that he may initially be shy and hesitant around unfamiliar people, so children will need to give him space and allow him to approach in his own time. Suitability to Cats & Dogs * Could live with the right large, confident dog, but this would need careful assessment and introduction. * His play style can be quite rough, physical and full-on, and he can be a lot of dog for other dogs. * Not suited to small, timid or delicate dogs. * He could be very happy as the only dog in the home. * Not suited to homes with cats. Chimera is a stunning, intelligent, affectionate boy with a wonderfully goofy personality. He’s the kind of dog who keeps life entertaining while also being a genuinely lovely companion to have around. He does have two very important requests of his future family: please give him time, and understand that he is a big, powerful dog who can be a lot for other dogs. The confident, happy and playful Chimera we know may not walk through your door on day one. In a new environment, without the familiar people he trusts, he can be shy and hesitant and may need some time to find his feet. And when it comes to other dogs, his enthusiasm can be just as big. He plays hard, plays rough and can easily overwhelm dogs who don't appreciate his style. The right family will need to understand this, manage his interactions carefully and continue helping him develop better social skills. But if you are patient, understanding and willing to let him settle at his own pace, we truly believe you will be rewarded. Soon enough, that gorgeous personality will start to emerge, and you'll see the confident, happy boy we have been lucky enough to get to know.
