About Barney

Meet Barney Barney is a very handsome, very sweet and slightly ridiculous young Catahoula who is looking for his forever home. Still under a year old, Barney is incredibly affectionate and cuddly, loves being around his people and is always up for some fun. He is also exceptionally strong and fast, so his new family should be ready for a dog who loves tug-of-war, playing, zoomies and general chaos. He has a wonderful goofy personality and has earned himself a few very appropriate nicknames: Fruitcake, Fruitloop, Clown Car and Sideshow. He’s also a big softie, sometimes scared of things like shadows, leaves and random furniture left out for council clean up days! Barney already knows sit, centre, up, shake, bang and spin, and he’s a clever boy who is capable of learning plenty more with some consistency and positive reinforcement. Barney would thrive with an active person, couple or family who can give him plenty of daily exercise, play and attention. A secure yard would be a big bonus, though he does like to dig. He would especially love having a doggy friend around who enjoys playtime and cuddles and can teach him some puppy manners. His new family should also be prepared to continue his training. He would benefit from some work on loose-lead walking, recall and keeping all four feet on the ground when greeting people. He’s young, strong and enthusiastic, so he’ll need people who are willing to give him clear boundaries and plenty of positive reinforcement. If you’re looking for a cuddly, goofy, athletic companion with a huge personality, Barney might be your guy!!
