About Maximus

Maximus has spent almost his entire life being deeply loved, and you can feel that in the dog he is today. He came to us through no fault of his own after a change in his family's circumstances, and it's clear from everything they shared that saying goodbye to him was incredibly difficult. They described him simply as the "most beautiful warm loving hearted" boy, and after meeting him, it's easy to see why. Maximus is a happy, energetic dog who loves to play and be part of whatever his people are doing. He already knows sit, fetch, shake and drop, enjoys chase games, feeder toys, squeaky toys and a good chew toy, and apparently has one very specific favourite scratching spot just above the base of his tail. He can take a few minutes to get to know someone new, but once he's comfortable, he's a warm and affectionate boy who loves being close to his people. He's also had a really lovely routine in his previous home. Maximus enjoys his walks, is comfortable travelling in the car on both short and long trips, has been crate trained and has previously stayed at a doggy hotel. He was also able to spend time home alone, with his family hiding treats around the backyard to keep him entertained. At the end of the day though, he's very much an indoor boy who loves sleeping somewhere cosy, and if given the chance, he's more than happy to climb into bed for a snuggle. His previous family even left a little night light on for him at bedtime, which says a lot about just how loved he has been. Maximus is interested in other animals and enjoys play, so he may be suitable to live with another well matched dog following a successful meet and greet. He is suited to a home with secondary school aged children or older. He's already a very good boy, and his new family can continue supporting him with positive, force-free training, rewarding the behaviours they want to see and helping him settle into his new routine with plenty of patience and consistency. What Maximus needs now isn't someone to "fix" him. He needs another family willing to love him as much as his last one clearly did. He has already known what it feels like to belong somewhere, and we would love to see him find that again. No appointment is needed, so come and visit Maximus at our North Melbourne shelter. If you're interested in adopting him, our team can arrange a meet and greet. If you have children or another dog at home, please bring them along so they can meet Maximus too. 39 kg <3
