Lumi

Lumi is a beautiful, gentle boy who has been through quite a big transition since arriving at the shelter as a stray at the end of August. He is a very shy and timid cat who needs time, patience and a quiet environment to feel safe, but his time in foster care has shown us what a sweet personality is waiting underneath that initial shyness. Lumi spent several weeks in foster care for some respite from the shelter, and it took around 2-3 weeks for him to become comfortable in his new environment. At first, he was understandably very cautious and would run and hide, particularly when his foster carer arrived home or when visitors came over. Importantly, Lumi does not bite, scratch or show aggression - he is simply a frightened boy who needs time to understand that he is safe. Once he feels comfortable, Lumi is gentle, calm and very sweet. He enjoys exploring his surroundings at his own pace and loves spending time in a cosy spot where he can watch the world around him. He has also discovered that play can be fun, particularly with a cat wand, and enjoys climbing and relaxing on his cat tree. One of Lumi's biggest strengths is his ability to form positive relationships with other cats. He initially needed some time to warm up to the kitten in his foster home, but he gained confidence from having another cat around and they eventually enjoyed each other's company and played together. For this reason, Lumi may benefit from a calm, friendly feline companion in his forever home. Lumi is not yet a cat who will rush over for cuddles or seek out lots of handling. He currently tolerates pats and touching rather than actively seeking them, but this may change as his confidence continues to grow. His new family will need to be patient and allow him to build trust in his own time. Lumi is looking for a quiet, understanding indoor home where he can settle without pressure and continue discovering the joys of being a loved and secure pet. He has already made wonderful progress in foster care, and with the right family, we hope to see this beautiful shy boy blossom into the confident and affectionate companion we know he can be. Lumi is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment.
